Ready Player One: Review

Ready Player One (Ready Player One, #1)Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Good: Fun story.

Less Good: The writing is bad. It is just not good. I found it impossible to be immersed in the world because I kept cringing at the prose. I powered through and skimmed most of the book just so I could be informed going into the movie, which ended up being so different the effort felt wasted. Fun idea, clearly made to become a visual experience. If any of you thinks Twilight is a literary classic then might I recommend this equally literary wonder.

      1. There were so many pop culture references and little easter eggs tied up in the story which I loved just because it was fun to pick out the stuff I did and didn’t recognize. It was also a really good representation of online friendships and all the lingering suspicions that you have when your “friends” are people you’ve never met. I could relate to that personally. And I thought it was just a really good escapism book, with a little of the past and present to paint Cline’s idea of the future.

      2. The Easter eggs were a lot of fun. Like I said, I found it difficult to escape because of the writing, but I’ll hand it to him that all the ideas were very clever.
