A Last Note Concerning Dating… and other stuffs

I’ve posted a lot about dating in the past month, so if you’re as sick of the topic as I am you’ll appreciate this last note. Also a few announcements.

First I want to go on record once and for all saying that women, you can make the first move. So can you, men. People all, if you like somebody you can make the first move. That said, tradition abounds and rejection sucks. So here’s a few (four, to be exact) practical suggestions for the gal who doesn’t want to make the first move and the guy who doesn’t know if he should.

  1. Use a friend as a liaison. S/he goes in, gives the green light, and everybody’s happy.
  2. Answer the question that was never asked: “I’m really busy, but I’d love to get lunch/have dinner/grab a drink sometime.”
  3. Invite them to a harmless event. Party, movie, whatever. It’s not an official “date,” but it says that you wouldn’t mind one.
  4. Say the words, “I like you now ask me out.” Just once I want someone to do this.

Aaaaaaannnnd that’s all folks. I am done writing about dating for the foreseeable future. If that’s something you just can’t handle, check out a guest post I wrote for the lovely Miss Wooable!

Also my Twitter is in full swing, @byclarkellis, for all the daily awesome I’ve got going on. And as if that’s not enough, I’ve finally set up a Facebook profile so you can be my friend! Finally, stay tuned for more Bow Tie Diaries, with a better webcam and hopefully more palatable content. Clark out.

  1. For someone who follows #4 often, I appreciate the affirmation. If the other person says no, great! At least you didn’t wait weeks or months wondering if they were interested. If they are intimidated by your approach, then it probably wasn’t going to work out anyway.

  2. I love this advice, as a man I get tired of being the one who has to initiate the conversation all the time. Plus if the woman initiates the conversation you have better odds that she actually likes you. Great insight and opinions. Keep up the great work.

  3. I have no problem being wing woman and helping a friend make the first move, but for some reason I can’t get myself to do so. Haha, so much for being the confident me all my friends say I am. Great suggestions though! I’ll have to try #4 just once, when I’m feeling extra brave.
